The City of Laguna Niguel is committed to fostering a vibrant walking and bicycle culture through improved safety and enhanced active transportation infrastructure.

What is Active Transportation?

Active transportation includes mobility by walking, bicycling, scootering, using a wheelchair, and other similar methods. The Laguna Niguel Active Transportation Plan (ATP) will identify infrastructure and non-infrastructure programs, policies, and strategies to enhance the safety of people using active transportation on City roadways and trails and may focus on specific neighborhoods within the City.

The Active Transportation Plan

The Active Transportation Plan will support efforts to create safer and more equitable streets that reduce bicyclist and pedestrian injuries and fatalities while increasing mobility for all ages and abilities. This will be funded by Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Engineering and Planning firm Mark Thomas Company, Inc. was selected through a competitive bid process to develop the ATP. An adopted ATP qualifies the City of Laguna Niguel to receive additional state and federal grant funding toward transportation improvements.
